About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Designer to set the standard for craft across Slate. This is a role for someone who has designed at a high level for years and wants to shape not just individual features but the design language the whole product is built on. You'll take on the most ambiguous and important problems, define how they should feel, and raise the bar for everyone designing alongside you.
You'll work closely with product and engineering in an async, globally distributed team, with regular time alongside the team from our hub in Europe. We trust you with the hard problems and the room to solve them well.
What you'll be responsible for
Lead the design of complex, high impact areas of Slate, from concept through to the polished detail that ships.
Shape and steward the design language and system, keeping Slate coherent and calm as the product grows.
Set the craft bar across the team, raising the quality of design work through example, feedback, and clear standards.
Partner deeply with engineering to make sure intent survives all the way to production.
Help define product direction, bringing a strong, well reasoned point of view on what to build and why.
Mentor other designers informally, sharing your judgment and helping the team grow.
You might be a good fit if you
Have significant experience designing digital products, with a portfolio that demonstrates exceptional craft and meaningful shipped work.
Are excellent across interaction and visual design, with real depth in typography, layout, and detail.
Can take the hardest, least defined problems, find the right direction, and bring others along with your thinking.
Have designed complex, collaborative, or data heavy products, and understand the problems they involve.
Use AI tools in your daily work to explore, prototype, and move faster.
Are happy working async and independently in a distributed team, and you communicate clearly in writing.
Hold a high bar for craft while still knowing when to ship.
