About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build the core of Slate. This is a role for someone who wants real ownership over the systems that make the product work, from the collaborative editor to the engine behind Atlas. You'll ship features end to end, make architectural decisions that hold up as we scale, and care as much about how something feels to use as how it performs under load.
You'll work closely with design, product, and the rest of engineering in an async, globally distributed team. We trust you to take a problem and figure out the right approach.
What you'll be responsible for
Build and ship features across the Slate product, from the workspace and editor to the systems powering Atlas, automations, and integrations.
Make architectural decisions that keep the product fast, reliable, and maintainable as we grow, with an active voice in the tools and patterns we adopt.
Own your work end to end, from early design through to deployment and the monitoring that comes after.
Collaborate with design and product to turn broad problems into shipped features, contributing your thinking rather than waiting for fully specified tickets.
Improve the systems you touch, paying down complexity and raising the quality bar across the codebase.
Help uphold the engineering practices that let a small team move quickly without breaking things, including code review, testing, and clear technical writing.
You might be a good fit if you
Have several years of experience building production software, with depth in modern web technologies and a track record of shipping real products.
Write clean, considered code and care about the details, from data modeling to the final interaction.
Are comfortable owning ambiguous problems, identifying what's worth building, communicating your approach, and getting it done.
Have worked on collaborative, real time, or data heavy products, or are excited to go deep on the hard problems they involve.
Use AI tools in your daily work to prototype, explore, and ship faster.
Are happy working async and independently in a distributed team, and you write clearly enough to keep others in sync.
Move fast without sacrificing craft, and you know when good enough is good enough.
